DYING TO READ..
Book of the Month

"The Wild Edge of Sorrow" by Francis Weller

Both lyrical and practical, this book provides a guide for navigating the deep waters of sorrow and loss and mastering the art of grieving. Alluding to the Western culture’s lost capacity to cope with sorrows personal and collective, Weller invites us to lean into sorrow rather than turn away from it. He explores the redemptive value of connection and shared grieving, the importance of releasing unexpressed sorrow and the gifts to be found in this experience, both for the mourner and for those around them. We all have much to learn and this book is a balm for the grieving soul and a wonderful resource for those who support them.

A SONG TO DIE FOR

"Keep me in your heart for a while" - Warren Zevon
I love this song. It's Warren Zevon's take on writing a Bob Dylan song, and he does a beautiful job with it! It's so gentle and sweet, and encapsulates for me the reality of life and death; we all move on, and our memory is kept alive in the hearts of those who loved us. I hope you enjoy it. ~ Rose

MEDIA MORTEM

This article explores the changing face of mourning in our culture, especially through the lens of the ever increasing entrenchment in social media. Many seem to live our entire lives in public, posting selfies and pictures of our food. Digital mourning is changing our cultural norms around grief and grieving and our experiences of the deaths of others. It's a thought-provoking read.

DYING TO GO TO...

"The Session"
Looking for an event to challenge your mind, get your affairs in order or explore the topic of death and dying further? With this month's focus on grief, we thought we'd share a link to this counselling service based in Sydney. They have been offering online grief sessions over the past few months. They are highly credentialled, and you may recognize Wendy Lui who featured in Leigh Sales' recent book "Any Ordinary Day".

YA KILLIN' ME...

According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you'd rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy!
